The Dursley Dozen 2012 was a great success with competitors telling us they really liked the new course, great marshalling and signposting. Weather was relatively mild, but the lack of sun meant that ground conditions were quite hard with some skating sections! but a reasonable amount of mud was to be found distributed over the finishers legs

There was 166 finishers in this years race. The times seemed a bit slow considering it is a reletively flat course with a short up and down over the hill at the half way point and the weather I believe was not too bad

The men’s race was won by Wye Valley’s Jon Barnes who was followed home by Jon Pugh Unattached and Luke Mason also of Wye Valley Runners. John Pullen finished in 6th position to help Wye Valley capture the team award.

The ladies race was won by Clara Evans of Hereford AC, Emma McWilliams of Myndd Du finished 2nd with Ann Marie Harris of Mynnd Du 3rd. Hay Hotfooters won the ladies team award.

This was a poorly attended race and without Wye Valley Runners and Worcester AC would not have been worth running. It is a pity as this series used to attract top runners from South Wales with sub 15 minutes being seen on a regular basis.

If you are interested in a tough hill race on the Herefordshire / Wales border then please read on.........This will be the 6th running of the Darrens Dash in the Herefordshire village of Longtown. This year the course will be longer and tougher (AM fell race) than ever before comprising 100% off-road running across farmland, tracks, paths and 1,500 ft of ascent on to the beautiful Offa's Dyke path betwixt England and Wales.
The event is a joint promotion between Wye Valley Running Club (organisers of the Muddy Woody 6 race) and Longtown Primary School / Longtown Pre-School. A warm welcome is assured for all the family with a cross-country fun run and other family activities with ample refreshments

Where has April gone. This has been a busy month for me with three events of 17 miles or more and a weekly average in access of 50 miles. May is going to be the same and all being well finish on my 1st big challenge of the year (I will tell you about his later).

We've now finalised the details of our annual triathlon which has moved to Lucton School. We're staging it on Sunday July 3rd. The new course is really fast and picturesque so we're hoping that it may be a permanent move.

I would like to wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy New Year and look forward to your continued support in 2011.
This last year has had its ups and downs with my running. I have had a couple of small injuries at the wrong time which has cost me my qualifier for an event I wanted to do in 2011. Saying that I have managed to do the events I had entered and have achieved some good times. I have already got a few events lined up for 2011 starting with a 22 miler across the Elan Valley hills in Mid Wales early January
How have you all been managing with your running in the bad weather we have had in the UK ? I have found it a good excuse to run off road which is what I prefer and a lot safer than icy pavements.
On a closing note I came across a very interesting web site the other day called the "Runningnut" produced by an Australian guy, the article that caught my eye was on winter running, you might find it of interest.

Hereford Runner - Cross Country 5th December Cancelled

A message from Mike Blenkinsop - Cross country organiser :

Unfortunately, weather conditions dictate that this Sunday's (5th December) Herefordshire Cross Country League race, due to take place at Fforest Fields (Hundred House), has been cancelled .
The course is, at present, covered by 6 inches of snow on top of ground that is frozen rock hard. The course itself contains some tricky descents and, with runners' safety in mind, we feel compelled to call off the event with no break in the freezing weather conditions forecast.
We hope to re-schedule the race for the first Sunday in February with the Presteigne race re-arranged for the end of February. I will confirm the dates when they are finalised.
Builth & District R.C. are very disappointed with the turn of events and look forward to hosting the race in the near future.
I hope that you understand the reasons for making this decision.

Herefordrunner The Start of a New Year

January races have now been added. A good way to start the New Year is by running the ever popular Wye Valley Runners New Years Day 10k. This race attracts a field of 200+ so you wont be alone.
One of my favourites is the Reservoir Roundabout in Elan Valley just above Rhyader on the 8th. This is a good event over some pretty rough exposed terrain but well worth the journey especially if the weather looks good. Finally if anyone wants a long road there is the 10m, marathon and 50k road races at Gloucester.
